What is the single most important thing attendees discover at your session?
The interpretation of technology as delivering a business value to their client or employer through hands-on exploration and investigation of technologies.

What do you believe is the greatest innovation to affect the events industry in the past year?
Affordable wow. Manufacturers finding ways to create exciting products at an affordable price through smart design. Planners and producers using tried and true technologies in new ways to work within budget constraints.

Where do you find inspiration?
I have a few sources. First, my peers. I believe that I know some of the brightest people in this business and I look to them for their brilliance! Second, I see a lot of artistry in foreign cultures that could easily be overlooked if not open to it. Finally, I have a deep seated focus on sustainability, so I am inspired by biomimicry and natural systems of efficiency and minimalism.

What excites you most about the year ahead in the events industry or your personal business?
This is a wonderful year ahead. In the AV industry it’s exciting to see more manufacturers focus on creating energy efficient but functional equipment. Personally, we’ve just acquired a modular widescreen that will give us flexibility to provide widescreen support all the way to 18x60’ – with one screen!!

What is the best piece of business advice you’ve ever been given?
My dad has always been my business coach, since I was just a kid. A few things he always said really stuck with me. One is A.S.K. = G.E.T. If we never ask, we’ll never know what was possible, right? The other is a focus on being lean and mean (and green!) in business. That was the model I used to build our business and it served us exceptionally well during this heinous economy. Our spend is strictly based on long-term investment in the best people and equipment and that has helped us to actually grow even during the worst of the financial storm!

BIO
“Passion of Purpose” is what drives Midori. When she discovered that the industry lacked recommendations for green AV practices, she undertook nine months of research and writing to compose the first-ever set of sustainable staging guidelines. Open-sourcing this information and sharing with clients and competitors alike, she proceeded to become the sole industry expert on the topic of green AV for live events.

Midori ‘s passion for learning has propelled her to share her knowledge through her AVGirl advice column for Plan Your Meetings, as a platinum speaker on Strategic Corporate Social Responsibility for MPI, and  by serving as a speaker on the business of green meetings for PCMA, Elite Meetings and other organizations.
