Where do you find inspiration?
Anywhere I go. I always have a camera with me and see things in my travels in hotel lobbies, restaurants, even on the street. I keep my eyes and ears open for inspiration even in my own city.      

What excites you most about the year ahead in the events industry or your personal business?
The year ahead is exciting to us as we are going to build on successes and failures we have had. We have learned a lot about how to use blogging and social networking to increase our sales and recognition with our clients and peers. 

What is the best piece of business advice you’ve ever been given?
My Dad always taught me that you can NOT be afraid to ask for anything. The sale, information, or something that you think may be greeted with an answer you don’t want. He said you must always ask!!! 

What do you hope attendees will take away from your session?
Destination weddings have grown at an incredible pace. I most want my attendees to walk away with tools for marketing their business to work outside of their own cities. How to embrace destination they are working in and create a sense of place in their design, food and customs of the area they are working and valuable tips and tactics for working with new vendors in areas they have not worked.

Ali Phillips is the chief wedding orchestrator of Engaging Events By Ali, Inc. She is one of the top wedding consultants in Chicago, Illinois. While Chicago is really Ali’s “kind of town,” she plans events all over the world including Vermont, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Iowa, the Caribbean Islands and South Africa.

Ali is a member of WIPA and a certified Professional Bridal Consultant with the Association of Bridal Consultants. She is the President of the Chicago Chapter of Wish Upon a Wedding; the world’s first non-profit wedding and vow renewal granting organization. She is a member of ISES (International Special Event Society), National Association of Women Business Owners and Step Up Women’s Network. 

Ali has been honored being named one of the Top Chicago Wedding Planners in Chicago Magazine and has also been named in The Knot’s Best of Weddings numerous years running.
